coming out daily, it\u2019s hard to keep up<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DEI pages have all been removed from federal websites<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Federal spending was stopped and then restarted, so lots of uncertainty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>USAID future is unknown, will likely be mostly shut down<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Department of Education will be reduced and reorganized<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NIFA future is unknown at this point<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New USDA Secretary nomination is moving ahead, she seems very supportive of LGU\u2019s<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Planning to fully automate all functions at the Treasury Dept<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Farm Bill reconciliation will be difficult, likely will be cuts in the larger programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research Facilities Act still has good support in both Senate and House<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Capacity funds will likely be flat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Decadal Vision document is being used internally to guide programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Waded Cruzado is the new APLU President meeting \u2013<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2026 meeting will be in Louisville, KY<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1200 registered this year, which is another increase, 60% were students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Current size is a good fit for SAAS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mark is transitioning out as SAAS Executive Director and Marcy Fisher, LSU business officer, will be taking that role<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AV costs have greatly increased, some groups are using their own equipment instead of renting from hotel, but logistics have to be worked out first<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Administrative Heads Section Meeting in November, 2024 \u2013<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All items in this meeting were covered in Wendy\u2019s presentation earlier<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>AgInnovation and Extension Strategic Plans \u2013 Gary Thompson and Rich Bonanno<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>AgInnovation<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Started a couple years ago with the desire to be more strategic with planning and communications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Need to be thinking of impacts on society\u2019s needs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serious planning over the past year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workshop in Chicago helped narrow down the plan to three pillars\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sustainable food systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Climate solutions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Water resilience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formed working groups around each pillar to develop outcomes and quantitative goals, plus the consequences of no action<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Presented the plan at BAA Leadership Meeting (Joint COPS), which lead to discussion about integrating with Extension<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>May combine climate and water pillars into one, Resilient Lands<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Document is still evolving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Extension<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plan is an outline of what we want to accomplish<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Both documents will be useful for next push after RFA and for next Farm Bill in 2028-29<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extension pillars are:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Community and Workforce Development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4H and Positive Youth Development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nutrition and Health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working to combine these with research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working with Lewis-Burke on how to full it out and determine new resources needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mini Land-grant Conference Update \u2013 Eric Young<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>See the <a hour plenary sessions from 8:00 to 10:00 am each morning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The tour will be part of the conference on Wednesday afternoon and included in registration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The S-AHS will meet separately and in different joint sessions with CARET, SAAESD, and ASRED<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One of our sessions with CARET will include some ag communicators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>S-AHS Secretary Election \u2013<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Olga Bolden-Tiller (Tuskegee) has agreed to be nominated for Secretary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No additional nominations from the floor, Dr. Bolden-Tiller was elected unanimously.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After this meeting, Deacue Fields will become Chair and Keith Carver Chair-elect; they will also be our representatives on the national AHS Executive Committee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Other Agenda Items<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eric Young\u2019s current 2-year contract as Executive Director with University of Arkansas ends June 30.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The 1862 AHS in attendance approved going ahead with another 2-year contract, although Eric indicated he may retire after one more year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Institutional updates \u2013 All<\/strong>\n<ul
