Douglas E Edlund

Doug Edlund is the assistant director for communications and operations with UTIA Marketing and Communications. His areas of expertise include video production, media relations, emerging technology, social media strategy, and podcast production. Edlund works in collaboration with the Institute’s four units — UT Extension, UT AgResearch, the Herbert College of Agriculture, and the College of Veterinary Medicine — to tell UTIA’s story across Tennessee and the nation. He joined UTIA in 1999. Prior to joining the Institute, Edlund worked at WBIR-TV in Knoxville for twelve years. He served as an editor, assignment editor, and news photographer during his tenure. Edlund covered a number of national news stories as a news photographer, including the Oklahoma City bombing and John Glenn’s return to space. His work as a photojournalist has been used in international news workshops in more than forty countries and in numerous TV news classes at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Edlund is active in the Association for Communications Excellence, or ACE, where he has been a member since 1999. ACE is an international professional development organization made up of agricultural communicators at land-grant institutions in the US and in numerous countries worldwide. He has served in a number of leadership roles throughout his membership and currently serves as the president of ACE, with his term ending in mid-2020. He will then serve as the ACE past president for one more year. A two-time graduate of the University of Tennessee, Edlund holds bachelor of science and master of science degrees in communications. He is married to Ruth Brake Edlund and they have one daughter, Christina, who is a junior at Bearden High School and soon to be college bound.
