Two groups of students have achieved significant accomplishments this semester in their areas of study. After a decade-long hiatus, the University of Tennessee Dairy Judging Team has made an outstanding comeback.
The 2022 team consisting of Rebecca Finchum, Jana Owen, Anna Epperson, Ella McLerran, and Abbie Trent competed at their first contest in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, September 17-19. The team also competed at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin, October 2, testing their knowledge against the best of the best from Europe and North America. Students ranked high in individual and team judging of several breed divisions, as well as in overall performance. The team is coached by animal science graduate student Abby McCalmon.
The UT student chapter of the Society of American Foresters/Forestry Club sent fifteen students from the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries to the Society of American Foresters National Convention held in Baltimore, Maryland, September 20-23.
Chapter president Kyle Hanners along with chapter vice president Kayla Stuart, Matt Barnicki, Jared Beeler, and Melody Mount competed against thirty-one other collegiate teams in the forestry quiz bowl and ultimately captured top honors after advancing through several elimination rounds. The UT students later placed third in the national Outstanding SAF Student Chapter competition.
