Ag Day 2026: A New Date—and a Return to Our Roots

Ag Day is one of our most beloved and highly anticipated traditions—an event that celebrates agriculture and the university’s vital role in supporting Tennessee’s number one economic driver. There is an important update for 2026 and the exciting opportunities it brings.

Ag Day is moving to a new date!
Friday, October 2, 2026—the day before the Tennessee Volunteers take on the Auburn Tigers in Neyland Stadium.

Why the change? Over the years, Ag Day has grown tremendously in both attendance and impact. At the same time, the continued success of UT Football has introduced new logistical challenges that have become increasingly difficult to navigate on a Saturday game day.

As we looked ahead to 2026, there was virtually no Saturday date that would allow us to host the event at the level of excellence our community expects. Rather than compromise the experience, our leadership team saw an opportunity to reimagine Ag Day in a way that both honors our traditions and improves the experience for all involved.

While this change may feel new, it is actually a return to Ag Day’s origins. The earliest version of this event—known as a “Barnwarmin’”—was held on a Friday in October before a rivalry game. These gatherings brought faculty, staff, students, and the community together for an afternoon and evening of food, fellowship, entertainment, celebration, and even the crowning of a Barnwarmin’ queen. In many ways, moving to Friday allows us to reclaim that spirit—while enhancing it for today’s audience.

We believe this new format creates an exciting opportunity to offer a more engaging, accessible, and memorable experience for our visitors. Plans for the day include:

• A full exhibition in Brehm Animal Science Building
• Expanded and interactive programming, including a robust animal petting area
• Food options available throughout the afternoon and evening
• Activities in new spaces, including the UT Gardens
• An evening dinner program honoring our Farmer of the Year and Horizon and Meritorious award recipients
• Live music—and perhaps even a little dancing

By hosting Ag Day on Friday, we can take advantage of the energy and anticipation on campus leading into a game—without the constraints of game day traffic and logistics. We are confident this shift will make Ag Day more accessible to the public, more enjoyable for our guests, and more manageable for our faculty, staff, and partners who make it all possible. Most importantly, it allows us to continue showcasing the very best of UTIA and the impact of agriculture across our state.
