Sreedhar Upendram
Specialization: Community and Economic Development
Dr. Sreedhar Upendram is an Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (AREC) since 2017. His primary areas of research are community economics, economic impact analysis, rural development, and natural resource economics. He serves as the interim program leader for Community and Economic Development for the University of Tennessee Extension. His research and Extension programs were funded by USDA National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Dr. Upendram earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University. Dr. Upendram has published 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, 140 Extension publications and 2 book chapters. He has obtained over $15 million in grant funding to support his research and Extension programs. His international experience includes survey of rice producers on climate change adaptations in Chitwan, Nepal; a second project on evaluating the influence of labor migration on climate change adaptation strategies in Sunsari district (Eastern Nepal); and a third project evaluating the success of dairy cooperatives in Nariño, Colombia. Dr. Upendram grew up in South India and is proficient in English, Hindi and Telugu that are primary languages in South Asia.
