Alaa Sewid, DVM,MS,PhD

Post-Doctoral Research Associate | School of Natural Resources

Specialization: Molecular biology,and Microbiology

Overview

I have been designing cutting-edge molecular assays for the rapid detection of infectious diseases. I obtained a Ph.D. degree in the Department of Biomedical Science at the UTCVM. I have relevant experience in synthetic cloning, molecular assay design, immunology, virology, and infectious disease. Specifically, I am familiar with multiple DNA and RNA molecular methods including real-time, quantitative PCR, and molecular phylogenetic analyses. Also, I have expertise in various methods in protein biochemistry including western blotting and ELISA design. My work generated several publications in respected journals (11 full articles, and 7 conference papers). Furthermore, during my doctoral and postdoctoral training, she gained experience in project management and grantsmanship.

Research Focus

*Epidemiology of multi-drug resistant bacteria *Synthetic cloning *Developing rapid, reliable, and robust pathogen detection methods *Genetic characterization, antimicrobial resistance, and methods to treat and prevent staphylococcal infections
