Hiroyuki Mochizuki, BVMS, PhD, DACVP (Clinical)
Specialization: Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathology
Dr. Hiroyuki Mochizuki (Hiro) earned both his veterinary degree and PhD from the University of Tokyo in Japan. He completed postdoctoral research training and a clinical pathology residency at North Carolina State University, achieving board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (Clinical Pathology). Throughout his professional career, Dr. Mochizuki’s research has focused on the molecular basis of veterinary diseases, particularly canine and feline cancers, and the development of innovative molecular diagnostic methods to enhance veterinary patient care.
Dr. Mochizuki’s research advances the field of veterinary molecular pathology and diagnostics, with a special emphasis on cancer molecular biology.
Dr. Mochizuki assists veterinary clinicians in diagnosing animal diseases using morphological and molecular pathology tools.
Dr. Mochizuki teaches clinical pathology to both pre-clinical and clinical veterinary students and actively mentors clinical pathology residents.
- My research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression in companion animals, with particular emphasis on Y-chromosome loss and its role in cancer biology. I am also interested in developing and applying molecular diagnostic techniques, including digital PCR and cell-free DNA analysis, to improve cancer detection, disease monitoring, and prognostication in veterinary patients. Ultimately, my research aims to advance precision veterinary medicine and contribute to comparative oncology.
