Shelli D. Rampold

Assistant Professor | Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communications

Specialization: Issues and Crisis Management and Communications

Overview

I serve in a 70% Extension and 30% teaching appointment in the ALEC Department, where I focus on issues management, disaster readiness and response, and risk/crisis communications. Originally from South Louisiana, my interest in disaster resilience was shaped by growing up in a region frequently impacted by hurricanes and other natural hazards. Prior to joining UTIA, I worked with the Center for Public Issues Education (PIE Center) at the University of Florida, where my work focused on agricultural communication, public perceptions and engagement, and social adoption research. I currently serve as the Tennessee's state Point of Contact for the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN), supporting statewide disaster readiness, response, and recovery efforts.

Outreach Focus

My outreach includes disaster planning, public relations, crisis communication, continuity planning, and agricultural recovery. I also serve as Director for Tennessee AgrAbility, which connects farmers with disabilities to assistive technology.

Research Focus

My research focuses on crisis and disaster communication, agricultural industry issues, and community resilience, with an emphasis on applied solutions that strengthen preparedness, recovery, and public engagement.
