Overview

Bill Johnson is the Jerry L. Gibbs Professor of Practice in the Agricultural and Resource Economics (AREC) Department within the Herbert College of Agriculture. This role provides classroom instruction and project-based courses using experiential learning techniques to deepen student understanding of business and leadership principles.


Dr. Johnson most recently served as president and chief executive officer of Farm Credit Mid-America. He has nearly 40 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in direct lending, risk management, business operations, information services, higher education and civic engagement.


Dr. Johnson serves on the board of trustees at the University of Evansville. He also served on the boards of AgriNovus Indiana in Indianapolis, Indiana, FCC Services in Denver, Colorado and the Farm Credit System presidents planning committee in Washington, D.C.


Johnson received his doctorate in education from Vanderbilt University, a master's in business administration from Gonzaga University, and a bachelor's of science in business from the University of Evansville.

Exploration of leadership principles through and exposure to the application of leadership principles in actual organizations. Students will also gain career insights by interacting with alumni and executive leaders in the classroom each week. Registration Restriction: Minimum student level – junior.

AREC 442 - Advanced Agribusiness Management
3 credit hour(s)

Advanced concepts in developing business and marketing plans and in applied management principles, such as inventory control and pricing techniques. Discussion of management issues including going international, employee supervision, management succession, and guerilla marketing. Teamwork emphasized in managing an agribusiness firm through game simulation. Written and oral presentation required. Satisfies Volunteer Core Requirement: (AOC)
(RE) Prerequisite(s) : AREC 212 and ACCT 200.
Recommended Background: Intermediate microeconomics.
Comment(s): Graduate standing may satisfy prerequisites.
