Bente Flatland, DVM, MS, DACVIM, DACVP
The College of Veterinary Medicine is home to multiple diagnostic laboratories providing testing for the Veterinary Medical Center and local and regional veterinary practices. Diagnostic testing provided by these laboratories is a key component of patient care and medical decision-making. The laboratories also support research carried out by UTCVM faculty and other investigators. As a board-certified veterinary clinical pathologist, Dr. Flatland helps provide cytology service in the Clinical Pathology Laboratory, for which she is also Director. As Director of UTCVM Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Dr. Flatland works with individual laboratory Directors and Section Chiefs and many other CVM units to coordinate, administer, and develop diagnostic functions and to maintain testing and reporting quality. Additionally, UTCVM Diagnostic Laboratory Services work cooperatively with the Tennessee State Veterinarian and the C. E. Kord Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory in Nashville, TN.

Dr. Flatland�s teaches clinical pathology and laboratory quality management in the pre-clinical and graduate curricula. She obtained Inclusive Teaching Certification from UT Teaching and Learning Innovation in 2021.
