Specialization: NIRS Spectroscopy, Forage Testing, and Forage Management

Overview

David McIntosh serves as Coordinator for the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture's Beef & Forage Center, supporting research, Extension, and teaching programs that benefit the beef and forage industries in Tennessee and beyond.

His expertise includes near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), forage systems, and applied laboratory science. He manages the NIRS Forage and Feed Nutritional Analysis Laboratory, overseeing laboratory operations, quality assurance, calibration development, and training efforts. Through the NIRS Forage & Feed Consortium, he provides technical support to laboratories across academic, government, and private sectors.

David also helps coordinate the UTIA forage variety trial program and supports initiatives 
such as the Flood Recovery Initiative. He contributes to educational programs, technical resources, and research publications that translate science into practical solutions for producers and industry stakeholders.

Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Plant, Soil, and Environmental Sciences, David holds a 
Master of Science in Plant Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Technical Communication 
and Professional Writing from the University of Tennessee. He has dedicated more than 19 
years of service to advancing the university's research, Extension, and outreach mission
