Overview

Neal Valk has been a member of the UT College of Veterinary Medicine Equine Field Service team since 2015. He owned a private equine practice for 17 years in Greeneville, Tennessee, prior to joining the faculty. Dr. Valk worked in private equine practice from 1989 until 1994, when he began his surgery residency. In addition to equine field service, Dr. Valk also works collaboratively with other faculty members to provide complementary medicine services.

Clinical Focus

Dr. Valk focuses on equine natural podiatry, equine reproduction and stud farm medicine, chiropractic and other complementary modalities.

Teaching Focus

Dr. Valk teaches the equine field service clinical rotation, business management, large animal surgery elective and other pre-clinical courses.

Outreach Focus

In addition to speaking at contiuing education and owners conferences, Dr. Valk teaches equine natural podiatry in Tasmania, Australia.

VMP 887 - Large Animal Surgery

Elective provides practical, hands-on experience with elective and emergency surgical procedures common to private large animal veterinary practice. Covered are numerous surgical procedures of the head and distal limbs, and bovine teat surgery. Other topics may include bovine right paralumbar exploratory laparotomy and equine castration.
