Dr. Bob DeNovo came to UTCVM in 1981 as an Assistant Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine and continued on the tenure track, achieving full-tenure Professor status in 2000. His expertise is in gastroenterology, hepatology, endocrinology, and endoscopy. During his first 26 years at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine, he served as Director of Residency Training programs, Head of Medical Services, and Head of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, while teaching and practicing clinical medicine and conducting research. He retired as Associate Dean of Administration and Clinical Programs in 2022 and was named Interim Dean on January 1, 2024, when Dr. Jim Thompson retired.

Dr. DeNovo has been the primary administrator for the operation of the UTCVM Veterinary Medical Center which includes the John and Ann Tickle Small Animal Hospital, the Charles and Julie Wharton Large Animal Hospital, the Avian, Exotic Animal and Zoological Medicine Hospital, the Equine Performance and Rehabilitation Center, UTCVM Diagnostic Imaging Service, and the Diagnostic Laboratory Services. As Associate Dean, Dr. DeNovo had the monumental task of overseeing $43.3 million in new hospital construction projects and approximately $10 million in facilities renovations with little disruption to providing medical care to more than 35,000 patients annually. Looking at an aerial view of the veterinary college and hospital is to see a small glimpse of the work that Dr. DeNovo has done with the renovation and addition of the John and Ann Tickle Small Animal Hospital, the Charles and Julie Wharton Large Animal Hospital, the Equine Performance Center addition, and the Teaching and Learning Center which opened in January 2023.

Dr. Denovo has received numerous awards and has made significant and impactful contributions to the development of veterinarians in training 30 internal medicine residents, 27 of whom are now Board-Certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine.
