Vice Chancellor For Advancement | Institutional Advancement
Overview

Dr. Charley Deal serves as the Vice Chancellor for Advancement at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. He is a graduate of UT Martin (’92, ’96) and received his doctorate in learning and leadership from UT Chattanooga in 2017. Deal was employed at UT Martin from 1992 to November 2023, working in Residence Life, Development, Athletics, and Alumni Relations. He also served as the Executive Director of WestStar Leadership for 14 years, growing the program to include five new outreach programs. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the UT Federal Credit Union and United Way of Tennessee. 

After being named Vice Chancellor in April 2020, UT Martin secured gifts and pledges of $127 million dollars and successfully concluded the university’s largest capital campaign in the school’s history, a $175 million dollar campaign. His new appointment at UTIA began on December 1, 2023. 

Charley resides in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife of 27 years, Shannon. They have two adult children, Alex and Jessie.
