Matthew Anderson

FR-Tsu Extension Agent I | Sevier County
Overview

I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA. As a child, I grow up watching my granddad grow a wide variety of produce in a small plot of land. This produce created a hunger for fresh produce after he was gone. After graduating high school, I moved to Alaska to work with youth and college students. I spent more than decade working in pharmacy, where I learned about creating relationships with the public. About 10 years ago I met my first Master Gardener on the Oregon coast, which changed my life. I knew from that point on, I wanted to work in extension, be a resource to my community. A few years ago, I decided go back to school and follow this new dream. I was able to receive my Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences emphasizing in Horticulture from Oregon State University. After almost 20 years in Alaska, my wife, kids, and I moved to East Tennessee to work on my Masters in the ALEC program at UT. I enjoy gardening and solving problems in the garden (landscape, soil, plant, etc).

Outreach Focus

Consumer and Commercial Horticulture. Master Gardener Coordinator.
