Overview

Development of exquisite working knowledge of over-the-top spray interactions with foliage to make informed decisions to reliably adjust sprays to efficiently reach targets with minimal off-target spray drift. Development of practical knowledge of machine and biomass interactions for harvest, drying, size reduction, compacting, transporting, storing and pre-processing of biomass materials for predictable outcomes within the supply logistics.

Research Focus

Spray Applications with emphases on atomization processes, droplet spectra sizing, droplet interaction with foliage and wind, and wind tunnel development for deposit-accuracy studies.

Clinical Focus

Biomass size reduction delineation based on shear versus normal stress failures for energy efficient grinding and the impact on high-tonnage storage and handling flowability properties for logistics from field harvest to biorefinery operations.

Teaching Focus

Accreditation processes for Biosystems Engineering and machinery systems (agricultural, construction, materials handling) design and testing.
