Research Focus

Dr. Newkirk's research interests revolve around the eye. In addition, Dr. Newkirk supports the research interests of veterinary students, pathology residents and her colleagues.

Clinical Focus

Ophthalmic Pathology Dermatology. Dr. Newkirk enjoys spending her clinical time reading biopsies or performing necropsies.

Outreach Focus

American College of Veterinary Pathology; American Veterinary Medicine Association. Dr. Newkirk enjoys mentoring undergraduates and helping them understand the depth and breadth of opportunities in veterinary medicine.

Teaching Focus

Dr. Newkirk teaches in all levels of the veterinary curriculum and mentors pathology residents. In the pre-clinical curriculum, she teaches microanatomy, general pathology, neuropathology and ocular pathology.

Introduction to physiologic concepts and problems that form the basis for clinical applications and for formal training in pharmacology, medicine, pathology, and surgery. Cellular, neural, cardiovascular, renal, respiratory, digestive, endocrine, and reproductive physiology. Lectures and laboratories for the study of embryology, microscopic anatomy, and radiographic anatomy in common domestic animals and to relate structure with function.
