Overview

Jason Hogan is currently a Research Associate II and Plant Materials Manager for the UT Tree Improvement Program. He is responsible for creation, maintenance and inventory of experimental materials. Jason is responsible for acorn processing and preparation for planting at the East Tennessee State Nursery, clonal propagation of select materials through grafting and root cutting propagation, and yellow-poplar breeding. Additionally, he is responsible for the Forest Genetics Greenhouse, Greenhouse 10, and facilities at the East Tennessee Research and Education Center, Plant Sciences Unit.

Jason earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri in General Agriculture with a major emphasis is Agriculture Economics and minor emphasis in Forestry and Agriculture Systems Management. He worked as an undergraduate student worker at the Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Center where he worked with pedigreed black walnut material and learned clonal propagation techniques. Following graduation, Jason came to the University of Tennessee for advanced courses in forestry. In 2012, he transitioned into a Research Associate 1 position and was promoted to his current position in 2022.
