Research Focus

Adapting current orthopedic implants for use in large animal species and exploring other options, such as innovative uses for currently available implants, or collaborating to develop newer and economical options for farm animals.

Teaching Focus

Dr. Klostermann mentors veterinary students, residents, and interns as they learn about farm animal medicine and surgery.

Clinical Focus

Farm animal surgery including orthopedic surgeries, lameness, septic arthritis, prevention and treatment of small ruminant urolithiasis, and teat surgeries of dairy cows.

VMP 887 - Large Animal Surgery
1 credit hour(s)

Elective provides practical, hands-on experience with elective and emergency surgical procedures common to private large animal veterinary practice. Covered are numerous surgical procedures of the head and distal limbs, and bovine teat surgery. Other topics may include bovine right paralumbar exploratory laparotomy and equine castration.

Grading Restriction: Satisfactory/No Credit grading only.
Registration Restriction(s): Veterinary Medicine Students only.
