Jacquline Risalvato, PhD, DVM, DACVM-Virology

Assistant Professor | Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences Department
Overview

Dr. Jacquline Risalvato obtained her bachelor’s in biomedical engineering from the University of South Carolina. She joined the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine as a dual-degree DVM/PhD student under the Veterinary Medicinal Scientist Training Program in 2015, during which she obtained a PhD in Comparative Biomedical Science (2021) and her DVM (2023). Before coming to UTCVM, she served the USDA as a postdoctoral fellow at the Southeast Poultry Research Lab in Athens, GA focusing on highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) pathogenesis. At UTCVM, she serves as the director of the Virology and Immunology Diagnostic Laboratory, teaches veterinary virology to students, and is establishing a research program dedicated to genetic characterization of veterinary viruses for vaccinology and advancements in One Health.

Clinical Focus

As Director of Virology and Immunology Diagnostic Laboratory, Dr. Risalvato oversees the activities of the laboratory and consults with referral veterinarians on virology and serology testing and result interpretation.

Teaching Focus

Veterinary Virology in the first-year DVM curriculum

Research Focus

Infectious diseases, specifically zoonosis and vaccine platforms; utilizing both traditional and advanced molecular techniques to advance knowledge of virus diagnostics and infection prevention while keeping in mind the One Health initiative.
