Overview

Dr. Chiara Hampton is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. She graduated in 2008 from the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Messina in Italy, and practiced as a small animal GP with a focus on anesthesiology and emergency medicine before moving to Corvallis, OR to complete her Anesthesiology residency at OSU in 2013. She also earned a Master's in veterinary sciences and a Graduate Certificate in College and University Teaching from OSU. Dr. Hampton has held a teaching position as an Assistant Professor at the Louisiana State University and has a passion for teaching, acid-base physiology, and swine. She has collaborated with several MDs on translational research. Her current research efforts focus on establishing evidence-based practices to improve quality of care of swine patients.

Research Focus

Advancing the field of evidence-based medical and anesthetic practices in swine patients. She conducts non-clinical and clinical trials to advance our knowledge in this field.

Clinical Focus

Dr. Hampton oversees the clinical activities of the UTCVM Anesthesiology service and consults with referral veterinarians on anesthetic cases and their management.

Teaching Focus

Veterinary Anesthesia in the second-year DVM curriculum; Clinical Anesthesiology rotation to fourth-year DVM students; Training undergraduate/DVM students interested in exploring swine research.

Specially-designed studies for students in novel special-interest topics and/or for students participating in self-directed learning environments. Topics are unique and not associated with standard core rotations or elective topics within the veterinary or MPH curriculum.

Grading Restriction: Satisfactory/No Credit grading only.
Repeatability: May be repeated. Maximum 16 hours.
Registration Restriction(s): Veterinary Medicine Students only. Upon approval of the associate dean.
